EET has developed a set of 'focused authoring tools' that allow for the secondary development of digital artefacts without requiring from the developer high-level technological knowledge (e.g. programming).
A 'Focused authoring tool' is a digital authoring system focused on a cognitive domain (eg mathematics), which incorporates functionalities that allow the construction of digital artefacts for concepts of this domain (eg, abstraction, addition). It can be considered as a template that can be used to design different artefacts with specific functionalities for a particular domain.
Focused authoring tools have been designed with emphasis on cognitive and constructivist approaches to educational technology, such as providing interconnected representations and functionalities that support inquiry learning and promote reflection.
